West Indies vs Papua New Guinea Prediction

WI vs PNG Match Prediction & Betting Tips, T20 World Cup 2024

West Indies will take on PNG in the 2nd game of the T20 World Cup. The game will be played at the Providence Stadium, Guyana and will start at 8:00 PM IST on June 2

West Indies will enter the T20 World Cup 2024 as one of the favourites to win the title. The hosts have been on fire in the build-up to the tournament and come into the game on back of a brilliant series win over South Africa. West Indies also defeated Australia in the warm-up game ahead of the main league.

Usually, a team needs a collective performance to win a big tournament but that’s not the case with West Indies. They have so much brute power in the team that a good day for two or three players is good enough for them to take down the best team. The team probably has the best batting line-up in the tournament.

For PNG, it will take a mammoth effort from them to beat West Indies; however, upsets in T20Is are not rare. However, PNG does not seem to have the quality to test this West Indies team even if they play their best cricket.

West Indies Team News & Playing 11

WI Team News

West Indies have the most fearsome batting line-up and picking a playing XI would be tough given that each player possess match winning abilities. Roston Chase did well against South Africa but he might have sit down given the stiff competition. West Indies should also play both spinners in Gudakesh Motie and Akeal Hosein while Shamar Joseph and Jason Holder should be the fast bowlers.

WI Key Players

  • Nicholas Pooran- Pooran has been on fire in T20 cricket for a while now. After a stunning run in IPL, a big performance is expected from him in the T20 World Cup 2024. Pooran turned on the beast mode and scored 75 in 25 balls against Australia in the warm up game.
  • Shai Hope- Hope acts as glue to this West Indies team who are laced with monster strikers. Hope is the most technically sound batter in the West Indies team and will mostly play an anchor role but don’t doubt his striking abilities and he too can switch gears at will and decimate an attack.
  • Andre Russell- Andre Russell will have a big role to play in the T20 World Cup for West Indies. Russell has form behind him and did exceptionally well in IPL for KKR, making vital contributions with bat and ball. If he can keep form, West Indies will be a force to reckon with.

WI Team Form

West Indies have been in great form. The team defeated South Africa in the previous series. Also, they beat Australia in the preceding warm-up game.

It is a monumental achievement for PNG to play in the T20 World Cup. The team don’t have much selection conundrum as compared to West Indies.  Assad Vala, alongside stalwart such as Tony Ura, who missed the T20I series against Malaysia, will return to boost the side. Charles Amini, Lega Siaka and Norman Vanua will be other players to watch out for.

  • Assad Vala-  Talk about consistency, Assad Vala has been outstanding for PNG. He has shown the skills to be successful at the top level and the T20 World Cup will present him the opportunity to grab eyeballs. He has scored 1244 T20I runs in 59 games. He can also chip in with the ball.
  • Normal Vanua- Vanua is the strike bowler for PNG. He is the leading wicket-taker for his team, with 63 wickets in 55 games and would be eyeing an impressive performance in the mega event.
