India will take on Pakistan in the 19th game of the T20 World Cup 2024. The game will be played at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York and will start at 8:00 PM IST on June 9.

India will be confident heading into the blockbuster match against Pakistan after a comprehensive win over Ireland in their tournament opener. Indian bowlers had a brilliant outing against Ireland and bowled them out for a mere 96. Later, a 52* by Rohit Sharma ensured an easy win for the team. 

Pakistan on the other hand suffered a shambolic defeat to USA in the last game. Despite going into the game as heavy favourites, Pakistan failed to play their best cricket. Pakistan batting crumbled against USA and the team could only score 159 in 20 overs, courtesy of Shadab Khan’s 40, however, the bowlers failed to defend the target.

USA pushed the match in the Super Over where Pakistan conceded a defeat. The game against India now becomes a must win for Pakistan in terms of Super 8 qualification. The Men in Green will somehow have to beat India to keep realistic hopes of reaching the next round.

Rohit Sharma was retired hurt against Ireland after being hit on the elbow; however, the Indian captain should be available to play the important game against Pakistan. Don’t think India would be making any changes to their combination for the crucial clash. However, if  Rohit Sharma feels that spinners could be more useful on the pitch (if a different strip is used), he may pick Kuldeep Yadav over Mohammed Siraj.

IND Key Players

• Virat Kohli- Virat Kohli was dismissed for 1 run against Ireland but will hold the key against Pakistan. Kohli has been in great form and scored over 700 runs in IPL. Also, he has a great record against Pakistan and most of his best T20 World Cup knocks have come against the Babar Azam-led side.
• Rishabh Pant- Rishabh Pant has shown good consistent form in the T20 World Cup. He has looked solid and scored a fifty in the warm-up game against Bangladesh. Pant also scored a crisp 36 against Ireland as well. It seems that he is enjoying batting at No.3.
• Ravindra Jadeja- Pakistan have a history of struggling against the spinners and Ravindra Jadeja is likely to cause a lot of problems for Men in Green. Jadeja’s four overs will be crucial against Pakistan. Also, if there is a requirement, he can also contribute with the bat.
• Jasprit Bumrah- Bumrah is one of the best bowlers going around in world cricket. No matter what wickets he plays, he always finds a way to pick wickets. Once again, India rest a lot of expectations on the ace pacer.

PAK Team News

Pakistan are likely to make a few changes to the team after the defeat against USA. Saim Ayub could come in place of Azam Khan. Also, Imad Wasim will return to the team if he has recovered from his side strain. Imad could replace Mohammad Amir is the playing XI.

PAK Key Players

• Babar Azam- Babar Azam played a scratchy innings of 44 against USA. However, he would be the most important batter for Pakistan against India. He is well equipped to tackle the likes of Bumrah and needs to play a long innings to help the team post or chase a big score.
• Fakhar Zaman- Fakhar Zaman would also be key if the team has to do well. Zaman has shown decent form in the build-up to the tournament. Also, he has previously played a few match winnings against India as well. If Fakhar has a good day, the chances of Pakistan winning will get a massive boost.
• Shaheen Afridi- Shaheen Afridi did not have a great game against USA and would be eyeing a strong return against India. Shaheen with his left arm swing bowling has created problems for the likes of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the past and would be looking to replicate his success against the Indian batters. 
• Imad Wasim- Imad Wasim will add a lot of value to the team given his all-round skills. He is a very efficient cricketer who can turn the game on his head both with bat and ball.

Pakistan have not been in great form and have lost their last three games, including two against England and the last game against USA.
