Afghanistan vs Ireland 3rd T20 Match Prediction 2024

AFG vs IRE 3rd T20 Match Prediction & Betting Tips

The opening game of the three-match T20I series between Afghanistan and Ireland saw Afghanistan win the toss and choose to field first before being well beaten by 38 runs in Sharjah on Friday evening. Read on as we preview this second game of the series which gets underway at 20:00 local time on March 17th, Sunday evening, at the same venue.

Afghanistan will have been disappointed with their performance with both bat and ball in Friday’s game and Rashid Khan will be demanding more from his players across all departments in this T20I. If they play to their potential then levelling the series is a likely result!

Ireland were good with the bat in the opening match of the series but exceptional with the ball and Paul Stirling’s side will be full of confidence when they return to Sharjah on Sunday. However, they will need to play to a similar level if they are to take an unassailable 2-0 lead.

AFG vs IRE Match Toss Prediction

It is now four of the last five T20Is in Sharjah which have been won by the team batting first. We predict that the skippers for Ireland and Afghanistan will both want to bat first on Sunday.

AFG vs IRE Pitch Report

We expect the pitch to play consistently throughout this T20I which means not a huge amount of pace but some assistance for the bowlers. Any target above 160 will be hard to chase down in the second innings of the match.

Sharjah Weather Report

The forecast is for a warm evening in Sharjah on Sunday. Humidity levels will increase from 60 to 70% across the game with the temperature above 23 degrees from start to finish.

Afghanistan Team News & Playing 11

AFG Team News

Not only did star-spinner and captain Rashid Khan return to Afghanistan’s XI for the last game, there were also debuts for Ijaz Ahmad Ahmadzai and Nageyalia Kharote. We expect both debutants to get another opportunity in this match in spite of the defeat in the opening T20I.

AFG Key Players

  • Rahmanullah Gurbaz- the 22 year old was dismissed from the first ball of Afghanistan’s innings on Friday but this will be his 95th international and he has the experience to bounce back immediately.
  • Mohammad Ishaq- the keeper-batter hit six fours in total in the first T20I, four more boundaries than any other Afghanistan player, and was their only player to reach 30.
  • Nangeyalia Kharote- although his side lost, it was a T20I debut to remember for the 19 year old left-arm spinner. He will be full of confidence on Sunday after taking 2/16 from his four overs on Friday.
  • Rashid Khan- the skipper looked like he had never been away as he dismissed Paul Stirling and Curtis Campher in the same over before getting Gareth Delany’s wicket at the end of the 17th over.

AFG Team Form

Afghanistan have progressed across all formats of late but have lost three of their last four T20Is.

Afghanistan Predicted Playing 11

Ibrahim Zadran, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Sediqullah Atal, Mohammad Ishaq (wk), Azmatullah Omarzai, Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan (c), Ijaz Ahmad Ahmadzai, Nageyalia Kharote, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Naveen-ul-Haq

Ireland Team News & Playing 11

IRE Team News

With all of their bowlers coming through Friday’s contest without injuries and plenty of strong performances across the side, no changes are expected for Ireland who very rarely adjust their side and instead opt to give their core players as much experience as possible.

IRE Key Players

  • Paul Stirling- the right-handed skipper struck two fours and a six in his 27-ball innings in the opening match and he will be disappointed with that return of boundaries ahead of this game.
  • Harry Tector- the number four batter has been Ireland’s standout player across all formats on this tour and will look to carry on where he left off in Friday’s game in this T20I.
  • Josh Little- the fiery pace bowler is often accused of taking wickets but also leaking runs. If he can back up Friday’s figures with some equally impressive bowling then he will have taken his game to a new high level.
  • Ben White- the 25 year old leg-spinner came on as third change in the first T20I and found himself on a hat-trick at one point before ending with 4/20.

IRE Team Form

Ireland’s impressive showing on Friday means they have now won three T20Is in a row, exactly the type of form they want to be in during a T20 World Cup year.

Ireland Predicted Playing 11

Paul Stirling (c), Andy Balbirnie, Curtis Campher, Harry Tector, Lorcan Tucker (wk), Neil Rock, Gareth Delany, Mark Adair, Josh Little, Barry McCarthy, Ben White

Who will win Afghanistan vs Ireland 3rd T20 Match?

Although Ireland were clearly the better side in the first T20I, we expect Afghanistan to improve in this game. Player for player it is close but we have Afghanistan as the top team.

🏆 Afghanistan vs Ireland Prediction

With Afghanistan expected to come back fighting in this T20I on Sunday, we are predicting an excellent and close game of cricket. Josh Little, Harry Tector and Ben White are all in fine form for Ireland but we are anticipating the likes of Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi to lead a stronger Afghanistan performance. We are backing Afghanistan to win and level the series at 1-1.
