England Team News & Playing 11
ENG Team News
The post-James Anderson era gets underway for England in this Test Match at Nottingham after their all-time leading wicket taker and Test cricket’s third highest wicket taker retired at Lord’s. Mark Wood will come in for Anderson in England’s only change.
ENG Team Batting
In spite of England’s emphatic win by an innings and 114 runs last week, the team management will have been disappointed that of their five batters to go past 50 none were able to convert into centuries. That will be an area of improvement for the batting unit in this clash.
ENG Team Bowling
With Anderson no longer in the team, we can expect the new ball to be shared by the experienced Chris Woakes and the debutant from Lord’s Gus Atkinson who took 12 wickets. Mark Wood will provide genuine pace although West Indies batters will not be afraid of facing that.
ENG Team Form
England ended a run of four consecutive Test Match defeats with their convincing win at Lord’s last week.
England Predicted Playing 11
Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Ben Stokes (c), Harry Brook, Jamie Smith (wk), Chris Woakes, Mark Wood, Gus Atkinson, Shoaib Bashir
West Indies Team News & Playing 11
WI Team News
After they had famously beaten Australia in their last Test Match, there were hopes that West Indies could threaten England at home in this series but they were very poor at Lord’s and looked hopelessly under-prepared and lacking match practice.
WI Team Batting
Making scores of 121 and 136 at Lord’s last week, it is clear there is plenty of improvement required with the bat for the tourists in this game. Alick Athanaze got into the twenties in both innings and his wicket is likely to be one which England target in this match.
WI Team Bowling
Gudakesh Motie was the only West Indian bowler able to keep the runs down and take wickets against England last week and he is likely to bowl plenty of overs in this Test as well. Jayden Seales (4/77) and Jason Holder (2/58) also come into this game after putting in strong bowling performances at Lord’s.
WI Team Form
West Indies were very poor at Lord’s and have now won only one of their last five Tests.
West Indies Predicted Playing 11
Kraigg Brathwaite (c), Mikyle Louis, Kirk McKenzie, Alick Athanaze, Kavem Hodge, Jason Holder, Joshua Da Silva (wk), Alzarri Joseph, Gudakesh Motie, Shamar Joseph, Jayden Seales
🏆 England vs West Indies Prediction
Although England’s bowling attack has now lost Stuart Broad and James Anderson in successive home Tests, the performance of Gus Atkinson showed that there is plenty of talent ready to step up. We expect Mark Wood to take his opportunity in this match as well and we are predicting that West Indies will struggle with the bat. However, it would be a surprise if there was not an improvement from the tourists and we are not anticipating such a large victory margin. Our prediction though, is for another England win.
